One of the biggest problems people have with the dog potty training of indoor puppies is thinking too much about what it means to them (ie the mess to be cleared up) and not enough about where the puppy is coming from.Obviously, this is understandable. But by focussing on this aspect, you tend to miss the main contributing factor. If you are doing all the right things such as:
taking the puppy outside periodically
making a great fuss when he does perform outside
and ignoring the 'bad' performances inside
but still your puppy seems a bit slow to grasp the idea, you may be unconsciously contributing to this.So lets have a look at what most people do with a puppy when they first bring him home. The puppy is confined to a small area, often the bathroom or laundry, particularly at night, on his own.Now lets take a look at the wild dog's family, and so where your new puppy comes from. You can immediately see that they always remain as a family unit. Wild dogs never put a puppy in isolation, or solitary confinement, which is what this amounts to.Dogs are pack animals. They are gregarious by nature. Isolating a youngster can cause enormous emotional trauma, which does nothing to help in your efforts at dog potty training or your future relationship and trust.Couple that with the recent trauma he has already suffered of being separated from his mother, often at too early an age, as well as his siblings. If you have bought your puppy from a pet shop, this will have happened. Young puppies are more appealing to us, so tend to be taken from their mothers much too early. But their mothers play a key role in dogs development.A traumatised puppy will become more and more concerned (whether or not he shows it - some internalise their emotions just as some humans do), becoming more and more anxious. And so the potty training goes out the window - he is far more concerned about being accepted by his new family. How can he make you like him better? And you become more and more frustrated and so irritable towards your puppy. It's an endless spiral. It's up to you to put an end to it.Understand your puppy's needs and everything will start slipping easily into place.By keeping your puppy with you at all times, he will become confident and balanced and able to learn what you gently try to teach him. You take over his mother's teaching and bonding role. One way to avoid the mess and keep your puppy close by, is to section off a part of the room you are in (including your bedroom), to confine him and the mess. Put lots of newspaper or wee pads down. You might have an old toddler mobile play unit, that you can move around the house with you. Or buy a second-hand one. You'll find that your dog potty training will progress much more easily, because you're not creating any separation anxiety. Not only that, but your puppy will be much easier to train, because you have created a close bond with him. He trusts you. You have proved to him you are his family. You have understood his basic needs.

Having a new puppy in the house is a great experience but it can also be one of the more frustrating times that you have to spend with your animal. The reason why this is the case is because this is when the initial training of the dog needs to take place. Although it is not necessary to have a dog that knows how to sit or stay at this particular age, there is a level of dog potty training that needs to take place as soon as they are brought into your home. What is the best way for you to do this training?Dog potty training should begin immediately after you get the dog. You need to learn how to recognize whenever your dog is getting ready to go to the bathroom and react on that immediately. Some of the most common times that this is going to take place are right after your dog finishes eating and whenever they finish playing. Take your puppy outside after each of these activities are finished and stay with them until they relieve themselves. There may be times, however, whenever your dog just has to go to the bathroom out of the blue. Watch for them to be sniffing around a little bit for a place to go and then scoop them up and take them outside quickly.Whenever your dog does go to the bathroom outside, it is important for you to praise them immensely because of this deed. The opposite is not true as far as dog potty training is concerned. You should never punish your dog for going to the bathroom inside of the house. Although it may be frustrating, you need to keep your cool and never give them more then a firm "no" whenever this takes place. If you punish your dog for going to the bathroom inside of the house, they may just learn to sneak off and do it when you cannot see them.If you have to be away for a long period of time, invest in a dog crate and keep your puppy in there. They will not go to the bathroom in a confined area that they consider to be their living space. It is going to take some persistence on your part but dog potty training is an easy thing to do, provided you do the work.

Potty training pets is no easy task. We all look for shortcuts to get the desired results. Dogs need to go out often during the training process. It is best to take out your puppy within half an hour after feeding time. If you want to train your puppy correctly, you will need to be outside many times a day. As soon as your pet wakes up, he needs to be taken outside. After breakfast, after lunch, after dinner and even after naps, puppy will need to be taken outside to do his business. Also, take him out right before bedtime and if he whimpers during the night. It will often take a month or two to have a completely potty trained pet. Accept the fact that some dogs are trained faster than others. There will be accidents along the way.If you want to properly train your pet, you will have to make this a priority. Daily life can get in the way of training our pets. Living in the city on the 20th floor of an apartment complex can be a big hindrance to potty training your pet. Weather conditions can make it almost impossible when it is freezing out and the sidewalks are covered with ice. Many people have physical impairments that dictate how often and when they are able to take their pet outside. If you are older, taking your pet outside alone in the evening for him to produce can be an unsafe and scary thing. Many people must spend long days at the office and cannot be home at consistent hours each day and that can cause real problems in potty training your dog. Today, most families live extremely hectic lives so adding a pet to the equation is often a hard thing to do. Along the way there have been many methods used to train pets. In addition to taking your dog outside, people have used the paper training method and dog litter box method. These methods often can promote the spread of germs, urine and feces throughout the house. Cleanup can be time consuming and refilling the litter box is expensive. It is important, especially with young puppies, to use encouragement and praise or in other words, positive reinforcement when training your puppy. Put your puppy on the right path by concentrating on developing desirable habits rather than trying to correct behavioral problems later on. Keep in mind that training sessions should always be short and fun. Always remember that you are dealing with a very young animal who will need your patience. This will make dog potty training easier and build confidence in your pet. If you catch your pup in the act, call out "No" or clap your hands to get his attention. Then take your pup outdoors and never punish or yell at him. Ignoring your dogs accident is best because you want to build a bond of respect and love, not fear. Please do not forget to praise your pet when the job is done correctly. Belly rubs, pats and treats push home the fact that you are very happy with your pet and help to reinforce to your dog that he did a very good thing.

Indoor dog potty training for smaller breed dogs is a possibility that you might want to explore depending on where you live. I know that some people like doing this practice because they are able to have there pet use a litter box or other form of indoor area to use as the restroom so they can enjoy the comfort of their warm dry home while there is three feet of snow outside. Here are a couple of tips that can help you accomplish this without much of a hassle. The first tip that I can provide you is when you are in the process of completing this you will want to make sure that the area that you are going to choose to complete your indoor dog potty training task is one that your pet is going to be able to get to without a problem. So for instance if you are placing your pet in one certain room during the day when you are at work you will want to make sure that they have access to the potty area or you could end up having a huge mess in your room! The second tip is when you notice that your pet is getting ready to do there business somewhere you will want to try to get them to the area in your home that you want them to use. Then when they use that area you will want to reward them with a treat of some sort, be it praise with chest pats, or dog treats you will want to reinforce that going in that area with positive reinforcement.

3 Most Essential Tips on Adult Dog Potty Training! Stop Your Pet From Messing Carpets!

Adult dog potty training is slightly different to puppy toilet training, mainly because of the fact that older dogs can easily control their bladder and colon while puppies can't until they reach 12 weeks. The problem with adult dogs is that they already have plenty of bad habits rooted deep in their brains and may be more resistant to toilet training than young, open minded puppies. However, if you implement the tips mentioned below you should be well on your way to housebreak your pet and stop him from eliminating indoors.Adult Dog Potty Training Part 1 - Prepare A DenThe most crucial element of adult dog potty training is to create a small leaving area for your new pet. Dogs are naturally den animals and they need such place in order to relax and hide from the surrounding world once in a while. However, what's important for you is the fact that your dog will not soil his den because it's his sleeping area at the same time. Dogs are naturally clean animals and will try to avoid relieving themselves in their living space. This will force them to wait with elimination until they are let outside and thus speed up the toilet training process.Adult Dog Potty Training Part 2 - Sort Out The Toilet AreaSecond step in adult dog potty training involves taking your dog to one specified location where he can finish his job. This is important because he needs to get used to the fact that he only eliminates outdoors. Taking him to one location on a regular basis will help him understand this rule and boost the training. You can use leash to limit your dog's movements so that he has to stay within certain area (e.g. close to the tree) until he relieves himself. Remember to clean after him (simply collect the stool and throw it to the bin) because your pet may resist from eliminating in a messy and stinky place and may look for alternatives (such as your house). This will overwrite the training done so far and slow it down significantly.Adult Dog Potty Training Part 3 - Timing, Timing and TimingA lot of folks ask when to take their dog outside. The answer is pretty simple as long as you can keep an eye on the clock. Dogs can eliminate within the first 20 minutes after the last meal. They may also want to relieve themselves after playing with you or being on a walk as physical activities stimulate intestines so keep this in mind while scheduling your day. Also, remember to take your dog outside before the night so that he doesn't whine and wake you up when he realizes he has to pee. If you don't know whether your pet needs to eliminate look for such signs of coming poop as circling and sniffing around as these directly precede elimination.

All dog owners can relate to taking a dog that has no clue about potty training and training him to be a responsible pet that knows how to "use the bathroom". A dog that received proper dog toilet training knows to go in the right spot at the right time.Unfortunately, many dog owners do not use the right training protocols for housebreaking a dog. By using a few common sense tips that I will mention here, you can introduce your dog to proper dog potty training quickly.First of all, you'll have to keep in mind that all animals instinctively avoid soiling the area where they sleep and eat. Of course, it may take new puppies a little while for them to realize that, but they will soon find out that they do not want to urinate or leave stools where they play, sleep and live. Here are a few dog toilet training tips that I recommend for housebreaking your dog today. These tips will help get your dog on his way to being properly trained for doing his business:1. When you wake up in the morning, delay greeting, praising or playing with your dog until he has done his business.  By introducing such a routine in his daily life, he will realize that he gets a lot of love, attention and praise after he does his business. This serves as positive reinforcement and will help him understand what to do in order to get praise and attention from you.2. When potty training dogs, you must take them outside (or to the location of your choice) and use only one command each time you lead them to the potty area. You can use the command "Go pee pee" or "Do your business", or whatever else, but be consistent and only use one command.3. Stick to the same route when you leave the house to go to his potty area. This will also help to create a routine and reinforce a pattern so that he understands that it is time to urinate or defecate when you take him through this route.4. The most important factor is using a lot of praise and love to reward your dog when he does his business in the designated area.  The dog must recognize housebreaking as a positive experience. The simplest and easiest way to do so for both you and your dog is to shower him with love and affection.

Dog Potty Training - What You Need to Know to Get it Right By Ray L. Jackson

Dog Potty Training - What You Need to Know to Get it Right

Dog potty training is similar to human potty training in that you need to have a lot of patience. This is something that is a very important milestone in your dog's life, just like a child's, and also just like with a child, it can't be expected to be accomplished in one try. That said, it IS easier to train your dog to relieve himself in one special spot than you might think. After all, cats can do it, and their brains are smaller than those of most dogs, so it should be a snap for your pup to learn. The main thing with dog potty training is to be sure that your dog knows that he is supposed to relieve himself in one place and one place only when he is in the house. If you take him outside, that's a whole other story. If you have a doggy door and a fenced back yard, you can actually just teach him to go outside whenever he feels nature's call. This gives him a lot more freedom and you don't have to monitor what he is doing as much. However, if you're in an apartment, or if you don't have a fenced in yard, or if your dog is small and you're worried about him getting taken away by a hawk or owl (it's been known to happen), then you want him to learn to go inside in a designated area. You'll usually put newspapers down in this area, to absorb whatever he deposits on them. Whenever the dog relieves himself anywhere but on the paper, you pick him up (without yelling or hitting) and put him on the paper. Do this consistently, every time you see him going someplace unacceptable, and he will eventually get the hint. When you see him go in the right place on his own for the first time, lavish him with praise. Do this consistently for a little while and the right behavior will be re-enforced and he will always go correctly on his own. Then, your dog potty training will be accomplished!

An adorable puppy can turn into a nightmare quickly as they create messes all over your home. It's at this time that you need to start dog potty training. While it is far from a pleasant experience, it is necessary. In this article, I will show you a quick and effective way for potty training your puppy.First thing you do is to set fixed times for the dog to go to the bathroom. Usually these times will be when the dog wakes up, after the dog eats and before going to sleep at night. In any case, make sure you consistently take your dog outside to go to the bathroom at fixed times. This means that feeding them at fixed times is going to be required.Second, create an association for the dog to realize that it is time to go to the bathroom. For example, you can use a certain hand signal each time before you take the dog out, or you can use a verbal command. The third step in the potty training process is to make sure to consistently take them to the same spot to go to the bathroom. What you're doing is conditioning them to go to the bathroom by taking them to the same spot to go to the bathroom every time. Just like any other type of dog training, potty training requires commands. When you tell a dog to sit, it sits if you have trained it properly. If you give them a command to go the bathroom they will know that it is okay. So once you take them outside, give them a command to go the bathroom. Finally, give them positive reinforcement after they have done the necessary. Let them know what a good dog they are and how you are proud of them. You can even give them a treat the first few times they do it correctly so that they get the point.Dog potty training isn't a very hard concept to understand. However, the most important thing is to be disciplined to be consistent with your efforts. This means consistently taken them out the same time, to the same spot, with the same command and always positively reinforcing good behavior. If you can do this, then potty training will be as painless and easy as possible for you.

Dog potty training can sometimes be difficult. Most of us do not have time to spend all day at home with our new puppy. While we wish we could, this is often just not possible. We have to work. There is nothing more frustrating than coming home from a long day of work and finding out that your dog has had an accident somewhere in the house. This is especially true if it takes place on the carpet. This is so difficult to clean, and sometimes the odor just won't go away.Well all dog owners have had this same problem at some point. It is only natural, as the dog needs to be taught just like a person, to do its 'business' in the proper place. The good news is that this problem can be fixed quite easily. What you need to do is find a good dog potty training program. There are many available. Most of the time these programs cover more than just potty training as well. I highly recommend that you get a very early start with your new puppy on potty training. The younger they are, the more quickly they will learn. I will provide a resource at the end of this article that has worked great for me.To get you started, there are some very simply things that you can do:1) Once you find an 'accident' make sure you make your dog smell it while vocally enforcing that it is wrong.2) Get them on a schedule. Create consistent times that you take your dog potty. They will quickly learn what to expect.3) Praise them and give them a reward when they pee properly. This gives them positive reinforcement for their actions. It is not just the dog that needs training. We as their owners need to be trained how to communicate with our dogs. Most of the time accidents occur because the dog just does not know what we want. We need to communicate effectively without getting upset. Follow these simple steps to get you started with your dog potty training. I think you will be surprised how quickly your dog responds when you are communicating correctly.

What if you seem to be getting nowhere after three months of potty training your dog? You have tried all the right things, crate training, putting your dog outside after a nap, teaching her only potty business outside, and so on, but still your dog does it inside. What do you do now? The problem is, he is only a small dog, and very young at only three months old. Even though you know he needs to go every few hours, it is still not working for you. How to do you get through to him that he needs to go outside to do his business. This can be very frustrating, and it is at these times you wish your dog could talk. But he cannot, so you just have to stick with it.The key to solving this problem is following the correct procedures to ensure you have success. Later in this article I introduce you to a method I found which will have your dog potty trained in just seven days. If your dog still does not change to the desired behavior, here are a few things to try.1. If you have been bringing him in straight after he has done his business, leave him outside for a while to have a sniff around. That way he will know that being outside is for fun and not just to go to the loo.2. Do not play with your dog until he has emptied himself. That way he will want to relieve himself quicker so that he can play with you.

Some say "You can't teach old dogs new tricks". For me that's wrong. Old dogs can also learn potty training or house breaking but some people think otherwise. At first, given the principle above, you would think that it would be impossible to teach old dogs the proper place to defecate, but older dog potty training is not impossible.Marking his territoryKeep in mind when starting older dog potty training, dogs know where exactly to eliminate, using their cunning sense of smell. Dogs, it is safe to say, that use their nose most of the time to think and act upon the situation. They know exactly where they need to go to 'do it' just by sniffing their scent. If you would notice in the animal kingdom, that most mammals like, wild dogs, tigers and lions scent mark their territories to let other mammals know that it is their own. When I say scent mark, it means defecate or urinate on it.Poop on the floorIf you (when beginning older dog potty training) happen to see that there's a poop on the floor and without catching your dog doing it, don't punish him for the incident. It would just stick to his mind that you're mad about the mess on the floor and not the act itself.Just take a deep breath and grab a newspaper or an old towel and rub it onto the mess on the floor. It wouldn't take you as much as two minutes to clean it all up.Catch him in the act of doing itIt is best to catch your dog in the middle of 'doing it'. Don't punish him because he doesn't know what he is being punished for. Otherwise he will fear you instead of looking up to you as a master and a leader.Dogs usually eliminate right after their meal and waking up after a nap.A simple and firm 'Stop it' is good enough. Afterwards, make sure that you walk him outside or guide him to the proper place where he can 'go'.Don't forget to praise him for a job well done after he finishes his task where you wanted it to happen or else he would not give a big deal out of it. Remember, positive reinforcement helps to discipline your dog.A follow upAs with any training when attempting older dog potty training, you need to be consistent in letting your dog know where you want him to eliminate. As an animal, your dog will keep on coming back to the place in your house where he defecated. In order for you to take that memory and scent off your dog's mind, make sure that the stench is properly removed by getting the proper cleaning agent to do the job. Keep in mind that when you walk your dog outside to eliminate be aware that you need to put him in the right place where you want him to 'go'.If your dog is compliant with where you want him to defecate or urinate, reward him with a simple treat such as small bits and pieces of chicken or anything that motivates him. That would have him go back to the same place over and over again until the time he gets used to it. Remember older dog potty training is not impossible.

So you're looking for some older dog potty training tips? Don't you just hate it when you have to get on your hands and knees and scrub and clean the carpet/floor? Doesn't it just work your nerves when the stench of poop lingers in your home? Following these simple steps will give you the power to never clean any poop or urine up in your home again. Follow these simple steps and your dog will truly become "man's best friend." This will allow you to enjoy your dog to the fullest.Tip#1 Choose a command phraseYou'll want a command phrase specifically for when you want your dog to use the bathroom. For older dog potty training, I use the phrase "Go pee" for both defecating and urinating. Since your dog is a little bit older, it's real easy to confuse the dog if you use different phrases when you want the dog to carry out a specific task. By using the same command phrase every time for using the bathroom they'll always associate "Go Pee" or whatever phrase you choose with using the bathroom.Tip#2 Choose a location - the same one every timeBecause dogs do well with routines and habits this only plays into their strengths. Older dog potty training becomes far easier when they are used to going to the same spot every single time. When your dog urinates or defecates in that same location they are also marking their territory. When you combine the same command phrase with the same location your dog then associates the phrase and location together.Tip#3 Give your dog praise for the good stuff and ignore the bad... for nowNeedless to say, you'd rather your dog go outside rather than in. Positive reinforcement is going to get you farther than anything else. Believe me, I feel your anger when your dog goes inside on the white carpet or leaves a puddle in the carpet or on the floor. Instead, be sure to reward your dog with a small treat and/or a good scratch behind the ear accompanied by "good boy!"By following these 3 tips it creates a powerful process in your dog's mind. First, they receive a command: "Go pee." This also makes you the leader, seeing as how you're giving orders. Second, you take him to his place of business. Third, you reinforce his following your directions with lots of praise. This gets your dog liking the idea of "following your lead" because they see how much this pleases you as well as the praise they receive. By following these older dog potty training tips, you'll never have to clean up feces or urine in the house again.

Timing - Your dog needs to establish an association with being outside and going to the toilet,so its very important for him to be in the right place when he feels the need to go.To get this right there are certain times when your dog will most likely want to go and they are as follows
After every meal
After drinking
After playing
After waking up from a good sleep
2. Reward when he gets it right - The best type of reward for dogs is most commonly food treats. It's crucial to get the timing right with this so try to make sure you are outside with your dog when he goes to the toilet so you can give him the treat straight after. By doing this he will associate going to the toilet outside a good thing because he is getting this lovely treat.3. Dealing with accidents - There will be a few accidents along the way so when you do come across them you will want to clean it up straight away but before you do, make sure your dog is out of the way.I say this because you will most likely be feeling annoyed or angry and your dog can pick up on your body language making him nervous and timid, this can make the dog's potty training take longer,so be calm and put him out in the garden and deal with the mess and move on.If you follow these three simple rules you will have your dogs potty training mastered in no time at all.

Do you have a new puppy in the house? They certainly can be a lot of fun, but there are some things about new puppies that need to be taken care of almost right away. Some of the obedience training that you may want to give to your dog can wait until they are a little older, but that doesn't mean that they are totally untrainable. One thing that any puppy can learn to do rather quickly is to go to the bathroom outside. In fact, dog potty training is one of the first things that many new owners have to undergo. There are several different ways that you can accomplish this training process. One of the most popular ways is what is known as paper training. This is where newspapers are put close to the door where you're going to take your dog outside to go do his business. Right after your dog eats or gets finished playing, you should immediately take him out this door and allow him to go to the bathroom. The dog will soon get used to the fact that the two are associated and go to this door whenever it has to go to the bathroom. A young dog, however, does not always have the bladder control that an older dog has. Until it is able to hold it for a longer period of time, the newspapers will catch any accidents that happen. You can also try crate training in order to train your dog to go to the bathroom outside. Many people consider crate training to be rather cruel, but ask anyone that has done it and you'll find out that the dog actually ends up enjoying its own little space. Because the dog will not go to the bathroom where it lives, it will tend to hold it for a longer period of time and this can be a real help if you have to go out for a little while.Potty training a new dog can be a bit trying at times but with just a little bit of patience, you will find out that it is not really all that difficult after all. All you need to know are the proper methods and you'll be on your way to having less accidents in the house.

When it comes to dog potty training it is all about being consistent with their potty breaks. So you just got home with your new puppy, first thing to do is take it outside to take care on business. When dealing with a new puppy, it is very important to take them outside every couple of hours to take care of their business.Dog potty training is not hard if you stay on top of things. Placing newspaper down in the puppy's area in case they have an accident will make clean up much easier. Be sure to clean up the soiled area immediately and remove any scent so the puppy does not think that is the place to go. When the puppy soils outside, be sure to praise them and let them know they did a good job.A mistake some people make with dog potty training is yelling at the puppy after the fact. Yelling at the dog after they have a mistake inside does nothing but hurt their feelings, they need to be caught in the act in order to get it through to them. Simply saying no and bringing them outside to finish their business is the proper thing to do.Using treats with dog potty training works well. Give them a treat when they go outside and tell them they are a good dog. When they receive a treat for when they go outside, it will make them want to keep going outside to get more treats. Be patient with your puppy as this is a big learning curve for them, understand them and get to know them for their personality. For dog potty training if you are putting down newspaper in the puppy's area, you can slowly move it towards the door every couple of days. After a week or two with consistent puppy walks and moving the newspaper towards the door, the puppy will eventually get that outside is the place to go and you can remove the newspaper all together.

Successful Potty Training TipsCanine potty training in 7 days, might seem overwhelming if you just brought home a new puppy. But the keys leading to success are not difficult to implement. Focus on these principles: First, be positive. Second, continue to reinforce the lesson. Third, be regular in your teaching sessions. Fourth, use repetition. Five, always exercise patience. One of the things you will need to realize is that your puppy will have a smaller bladder than a larger dog. So your canine is going to need to pee more often. Do not get upset when your pup does what just comes naturally.Define the AreaIf you have an inside pup, start by deciding where in the house you want your pet to urinate. Many dog owners like to put down some newspaper to define the area. Canines have a keen sense of smell and learn the routine faster than you think.Educate For SuccessIf your canine is an outside dog, you will need to educate the dog on where it needs to go. Some owners find that crate training makes this simpler. By taking your puppy out frequently, you can monitor its action and take it to the designated area.Provide Adequate TimeIf you are walking your dog either in or out of your yard, give your pet time to go. If you use the same route, your dog will likely be marking and sniffing in the same areas.Use Positive ReinforcementFor successful canine potty training behavior, praise is good. Dogs love to please their owners. They love encouragement and an affectionate pat on the head. My dog particularly likes his ears massaged. You will soon learn what your dog likes and you should do that to anchor the successful behavior you just learnt.

         Amy Conrad
Dog potty training is one of the most frustrating things a new dog owner will have to deal with when taking a new puppy home. This is especially difficult when your house is not puppy friendly at that stage. There are basically 2 ways of potty training your new puppy. Paper training inside the house or outside training.Paper training inside is a good idea in winter times when it is cold and raining a lot.Outside training however is the best way, because it is natural for your dog and he will relate better to it then the paper indoors. You might find it difficult to get your dog to relieve himself outside when he has been trained indoors. It might be confusing for him and also embarrassing for you when you have guests over.Try to take him out as much as possible, preferably every hour or two. You should choose a specific spot where you would like your dog to relieve himself and always take him there. It is a good idea to have a specific spot. This will ensure that you do not need to run around the whole yard to clean up his poo.In order for your dog not to get confused, use a potty training command whenever you want your dog to go. He will get used to it and he will shortly know what you expect from him when you use it.Every time your dog relieves himself on your designated spot, you should praise him for doing a good job. Make sure that is the only time (when potty training) you praise him. He needs to start to understand that it is acceptable behaviour. You could even also give him a snack in the potty training period when he does it right. It is also important to understand that your puppy will have accidents. So you should make peace with that idea. Never get angry with him if he has accidents. Just speak to him in a firm tone and say something like (no). Your actions should not be the same as when he gets it right, but it should also not be the total opposite. He should get the idea that it is unacceptable without you screaming and shouting at him.Do not rub his nose in the poo or pee, it will not help you in you training.Happy puppy potty training.

You have a new puppy-dog. Now what? Oh yeah, housebreaking him. So, what approach should you take? They are like children and need your patience during this trying process. Potty training is a first and crucial step to training. The sooner you get started, the sooner you can go on to other types of training. All puppies are different. What works for one does not necessarily work for another when potty training.Newspaper training is one way to go but it will be harder to break him from that to going outside. This is a confusing transition for him. It is usually better to skip that step. From experience, I have found a better approach.
Walk him first thing in the morning.
Be sure to take him out after eating or drinking.
If you play with him in the house, take him outside after the exercise.
You really need to watch his behavior through the day (if possible). If you pay enough attention you will learn the body language associated with him needing to go potty.
When you notice him sniffing around and circling, it usually means he is looking for a place to go. Get him outside immediately by picking him up and taking him outside.
Take him out frequently during the day. If he doesn't need to go potty, at least he will have the opportunity. It will get him used to going out. If he does potty, praise him a lot. Puppy dogs are happiest when they know you are pleased with them.
You shouldn't leave your pet in the house alone. Remember, they are like kids. If unattended they may do worse than soiling your floors.
It is also a good idea to have a pen, of some kind, in the yard for those times that you can't be watching them closely. Make sure they have toys to play with and don't leave them out there very long. Dogs get their feelings hurt easily and may think they are being punished.
Try to feed him at least 2 hours before bedtime and then walk him or let him out before bedtime.
It is also a good idea to confine him in a crate or pen overnight. This will prevent any accidents or mischief. If they are allowed to roam the house, almost anything can happen and you don't want to get up to that mess.
Never, I repeat, never rub your puppies nose in it and definitely do not yell at him. This will just humiliate him. And,yes, they do get embarrassed. Just pick him up and take him outside.
While he is outside, clean up the mess and use something that will take away the smell so he doesn't return to the same place.
Pay attention when he is standing by the door or pawing at the door. This, of course, means he is letting you know he needs to go out. This is a good sign.Your puppy dog is on his way to being housebroken.

Sure he's cute, he's cuddly, and he's great fun to be around, but if not properly trained your dog can also be a major pain. So your dog does not go to the bathroom inside the house, you will need to make sure that you have a good dog potty training program in effect. This will ensure that your dog knows exactly where and when to go to the bathroom. The first thing to do in your dog potty training program is to look for the subtle clues that your dog needs to go outside. If he is circling around and sniffing at the floor it is a good indication that he is ready. A well-trained dog will also follow you around and look at you in order to get you to let them out. When this happens you should quickly lead your dog to a designated potty place. This place needs to be the same each time and you should stick to it whenever you take your dog out.Whenever he uses the bathroom in the right way, you should praise him accordingly. Verbal praise and physical affection will help your dog to understand that he has done the right thing, and he will want to please you again and again. When starting a dog potty training program consistency is the key. You need to make sure to do this at the same time of the day, every day. You need to develop a regular schedule so that your dog will know exactly when he is supposed to be going outside to go to the bathroom. Any time that you may be gone for a long period of time, you should come back into the house and immediately let your dog out. It is important that you make sure that you are letting your dog out every morning at the same time, and also every evening before you go to bed. That way he is not forced to hold it longer than he can.

So when starting dog potty training becomes a headache, it is common to yell and hurl abuses at the poor innocent soul. But, this doesn't have to be the case when you understand the simple steps needed to make this job much easier.Without question, a dog gives lifelong love and affection to their owner, making your dog or puppy understand the nuances of potty training is trifle in comparison to this.It is easier to train younger puppies and dogs, dogs that are not home bred need special attention as additional effort is required in getting rid of the wrong habits they have acquired. The essence of dog potty training is to know the correct time IN and time OUT. Generally it has been observed that after 20-25 minutes of eating or drinking a dog feels the urge to go potty. So you need to instinctive, vigilant, and be able to comprehend his actions.Patience is inherently required as there can many a time when you have to wait for long periods under the vagaries of weather for your mate to potty. You need to be observant as dogs are often easily distracted while going potty (for example by humming of a bee, chirping of birds, etc.). A leash is a handy tool under these circumstances. Regardless of how cute your puppy is when you bring him home, resist the temptation to delay dog potty training until later. Even very young puppies can be potty trained successfully.A CrateA puppy crate is a very helpful tool for dog potty training. Training with dog potty training tips will make for a very easy and rewarding indoor house dog experience. Nobody likes to clean up feces or urine from a dog on the carpet or even a marble tile. It's gross and can get quite frustrating after the first few times. This post will discuss how to train your dog to do his or her business outside, where it belongs. For newborn or young puppies, it can be difficult to train them how to go to the bathroom outside. The reason is that these young animals do not have the control over their bladder that older ones have. As a result, they may be more likely to go to the bathroom indoors on "accident". Simply recognize this fact and expect it to take longer than for an older dog. The good thing if you have an older dog is that you can train him or her to fix this problem easily!Using the Crate! One of the easiest and most effective dog potty training tips is to use a crate. What you need is, of course, a crate! What you are going to do is put your buddy in this crate when you are gone for a few hours or as a training tactic. Leave them in there for a few hours and then come back later. Because most won't want to use the bathroom and relieve themselves in such a small confined area, they will hold their bladder or feces until they have more room. Nobody wants to be laying in their own excrete! When you come back, let your doggie out and take him or her outside. They will most likely relieve themselves. When they do, be sure to praise their success. Give them a treat, pat them on the head, do whatever you want. Just make sure they realize what they did was amazing. This will make your dog realize that going bathroom outside is a good thing.Make a CommandWhile your pup goes outside, be sure also to use some type of word command. This will get them to link up the command with using the bathroom. That way next time you say the command they will know what to do.AccidentsDuring the process of using dog potty training tips, I am sure that problems and accidents will happen. Do not fret over these setbacks. It's all part of the process. Absolutely NO punishment! This will instill fear which is the worst thing you want. Simply stop him or her from what they are doing and take them outside right away. Say your command phrase and clean the mess as soon as possible. You don't want the odor lingering as they will smell it and try again.Other Useful TipsOther useful and very helpful tips for this type of training is to minimize the area that you need to watch. At first, close off most of the house so you don't have to be chasing your pup around watching for accidents. Be sure to take him or her outside at the same time every day. It is usually best in the morning, after eating meals, when you get home from work, and at the end of every night before you go to sleep. It should also be done every few hours. It is best to take them outside to use the restroom instead of, for example, on newspapers. This isn't the best option as it is still inside and isn't training your dog to use the bathroom outside.

A suitable potty is very important if you want to potty train your dog to eliminate indoors. You can find plenty of potties on eBay and Amazon for a fair price. And what you want is something with a splash back and has a post for the dog to aim at, not just a tray.

If you use old newspaper to absorb the dog's urine, insert a single soiled sheet of newspaper into the fresh stack of newspapers when you are cleaning up the potty. It keeps some smell of the dog in the newspapers, the dog will be encouraged to use the potty again when the dog can sense the smell.

Just like us, dogs don't enjoy using toilet in the same room where they eat and play. If your dog has an accident in a clear area, then feed and play with the dog there. It will keep the dog from doing it again in the same place.

Like all other training, your dog needs some positive reason to use a potty, do encourage the dog with praise when he/she uses the potty correctly.

Adult dogs are easier to train than puppies. Adult dogs are more responsive to commands. They already have fully developed muscles for bladder control. They can hold it much longer. If you just got your dog from someone else, it's a good idea to ask the previous owner about the dog's training and behavior history, just so you have a clue on how to train the dog. Puppies get accustomed to the surface they eliminate on. So don't change this until he/she's fully house trained. Lastly, take note from others. Watch some videos you can find on YouTube to teach you how to train you dog to use potty.

Crate training in very beneficial when it comes to in house dog potty training, because it will assist you in training your dog self control as well as spare you a great deal of effort in cleaning up after your dog when he has had accidents in the house. The crate forces your dog, even young puppy, to keep it in for a period of time. However, do not keep him in the crate for too long and do not use the crate as punishment.Dogs have a natural instinct not to mess in its shelter, but if there is plenty of space, it will relieve itself as long as there is enough space for it to sleep in. So in selecting a crate remember to get a crate that is perfect for your dogs size.It is also a good idea to get a crate big enough for your dog when he is his adult size. You can divide it to fit him as he grows. In this way you will not have to buy more than one crate for your dog as he gets bigger. When choosing a crate for your dog, you should take into account that it needs to be the right size for the dog, not only for general house training purposes, but especially for potty training. If the crate is too big for your dog, he will not see the need to keep it in if he has to go.He will also not have a problem with relieving himself on the one end of the crate and sleep on the other end.A very young puppy should not be left in the crate for more than 2 hours at a time depending on its ability to control its bladder. As your puppy gets older you will notice that he can keep it in for longer periods of time.So it is really a matter of your puppy"s individual development and abilities. There is really no rule in this regard. Older dogs can be left in the crate for longer, even overnight. You should monitor your dog while he is still not 100% crate trained yet as he might get anxious and hurt itself in an attempt to escape from the crate.Happy puppy house training.

House training a dog or potty training is the first lesson in dog training. You can't predict when a dog would need to excrete, so what are the steps that you can take in ensuring that the dog does not develop a habit to urinate or excrete in the house? This has to be taught from the time the puppy comes to your house-and no later.A puppy's potty training schedule begins around the time they are 6-8 weeks old. Dog potty training requires a lot of patience as your puppy may take weeks before they learn about the proper place to excrete. You have to carefully observe your puppy to see what its behavior is when it wants to eliminate. This will help you in knowing when to command them and once the puppy starts doing what is asked of it, then you can appreciate its behavior. When house training a dog the basic idea to follow is that potty train the puppy in such a way that it excretes when and where you want it to. Puppies usually circle a particular spot and start squatting at such a time you should pick up the dog and take it out and command "out"-loudly and clearly. This word will gradually register and you will soon find that the puppy signals that it wants to go out.Do not shout or show anger if you were unable to take the puppy out to eliminate. This will further confuse the puppy. Puppies usually can't hold for very long so they may need to be taken out quite frequently. When doing dog potty training make it a habit to take the puppy out every few hours even if you do not see any signs of it wanting to excrete. Once you have taken it out use some words to convey that it should do potty, wait and see the effect, eventually it will start responding appropriately. If the dog does potty as instructed outside then start using this command and see if it is working. The dog will start understanding your command when you associate behavior with the command and also when it does what it is told it should be praised and patted. Occasionally people use paper or a crate for dog potty training, this may not be a good idea in the long run because then there may not be a need to go outside at all. It definitely is not good in terms of cleanliness nor is it good for the dog's health. It will start excreting in the same spot and then the habit would be hard to eliminate.
